THE NEXOTL

Ritualistic Amphibians, Water Element

LORE

Hidden deep within the mist-filled wetlands of the Aelune Forest lies the rumbling of creatures left forgotten. The Nexotl, a tribe of amphibians bounded together by ritual sacrifice and the ever-shifting tides of the swamp they call home. Their villages rise on stilts above blackened waters, lit by bioluminescent fungi and with carved symbols said to translate the language of the waters. Once, they were people of great prosperity and power. Now, devolved into a more primitive way of life. Corrupted by sinister rituals left unchecked. Rituals that demanded sacrifice and clouded their minds.

Every Nexotl is believed to carry the whispers of Naeya, the Goddess of Water whom the Nexotl worship with intense fanaticism. Each believing that the water within and all around them is a reflection of her, whispering. According to them, to earn her favor, she demands sacrifice. Chosen from any unwilling souls that are unfortunate enough to wander into their lands.

To the Nexotl, water is not merely an element—it is a sentient force, a flowing memory that records all deeds and grant them power. Their shamans, draped in painted hides and adorned with chitin plates and colorful feathers, perform elaborate rituals to read the will of their goddess through the currents. These rituals guide every aspect of Nexotl society, from warfare to ritual sacrifice to the hatching of new spawn.

In battle, the Nexotl fight with great ferocity—graceful yet unpredictable, like a storm-tossed tide. Warriors leap from waterlogged roots, strike from murky depths, and call upon ritualistic techniques that twist the flow of magic and nature alike. Their affinity for water allows them to maneuver through terrain others would fear to tread, turning the swamp itself into a living weapon.

Their culture is tribal yet deeply mystical, united by a belief that they are the chosen stewards of the Goddess Naeya. They regard outsiders with wary curiosity, for to disturb their wetlands is to anger their Goddess—and the Nexotl do not forgive nor forget trespasser.

PLAYSTYLE

The Nexotl focus on inflicting Status Effects to buff their own stats and damage output while simultaneously disrupting Enemy Units. Every Status Effect inflicted results in a buff for you and a debuff for your opponent, controlling the game state with effects alone.

However, with low Physical and Special Defense, The Nexotl cannot afford prolonged engagements. They must strike quickly, harass from a distance or apply effects early to stay ahead of opponents. What they lack in durability they makes up with high damage potential, swift utility, and access to powerful abilities. Keeping Enemies under constant pressure.

EXCLUSIVE FACTION RULE & STATUS EFFECT

  • BLESSING OF THE MARSH (Faction Rule) | Enemy units have their Hit Rolls reduced by 1 when attacking Nexotl Units. Additionally, once per turn, after an Enemy succeeds or fails an attack against your Units, your Unit’s Shifting action automatically succeeds. Your Units also deal +1 more damage with all their attacks against Enemies inflicted with a Status Effect

  • POISON (Status Effect) | Units hit by this attack have the Damage from all of their Attacks reduced by 1 during this Round only
